This book is an exceptional find if you're interested in functional anaysis but are tired of all of those theorem-proof books and want methodology. It was one of the best $4 buys I ever got. Of course that was 20 years ago. I have personally used the subject functions extensively over the years simply because I was more aware of their usability from reading this book. The presentation is comprehensible and can be mastered by any upper level undergraduate in physics or engineering, not just mathematicians. It is written (as the title suggests) from a problem and solution approach, like a Schaum's Outline book but much better and more in depth. What you cannot find on Gamma, Beta, Legendre & Bessel functions in this book, you can certainly derive easily after digesting portions of it.
