| Laboratory manual for the physico-chemical analysis of soil, water and plant
 This manual provides an updated compilation of major analytical methods useful for wildlife and environmental studies and used in modern laboratories such as Indian Agriculture Research Institute, C.C.S. Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, Department of Soil Science and Geology of the Wageningen Agricultural University, American Public Health Association (APHA), United States Environment Protection Agency (USEPA) and Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC). Covering a wide range of scientific literature, this work is a helpful asset for scientists, teachers and postgraduate students working in soil science, environmental chemistry or ecological sciences. It provides valuable support to the selection of sampling method, effective analytical techniques and equipment, to the study of different environmental parameters, with an emphasis on soil, water and plant analysis.
</SPAN> This manual is structured in five sections. Section-A deals with safety aspects in the laboratory. Section-B covers soil analysis and consists of 13 chapters on various soil analyses. Section-C deals with water analysis, Section-D deals with plant analysis. Section-E provides an introduction to the analytical equipment and basic knowledge of pH meter, Conductivity meter, UV-Visible spectrophotometer, Flame Emission Spectroscopy (FES), Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), Nitrogen analyzer, Fiber analyzer, High Performance Liquid Chromatography and Gas Chromatography. It also covers Direct Current Plasma (DCP) Emission Analyzer, Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) Emission Analyzer, Inductively Coupled Plasma - Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) and Microwave Digestion System (MDS).
This manual also provides information on proper choice of AAS instrument configuration, elemental interferences which could impede obtaining accurate results and solutions for their elimination. In the appendix, factors of Instrument settings are given for Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometery that can be optimized in order to improve the detection limits. In the appendix we provide a concise guideline regarding the effect of water pollution on human health and Indian Standards for Drinking Water.
